The Strategic Reserve Corporation

   Definition

    The Strategic Reserve Corporation  (S.R.Co) is an autonomous body under the Federal Minister of Finance and National Economy.  The S.R.Co has been established by a Presidential   Decree on the 20th of September 2002.

 

 

 

 The Main Objectives of S.R.C

1.       Collect and monitor data and information on commodity production, consumption, surplus, deficit and the overall appropriate commodity strategic reserve.

2.       To build commodity reserve and to make available the required finance in collaboration with the relevant institutions and making the necessary precaution to bridge any food gaps.

3.       Undertake functions regarding storage, storage facilities, replacement, allocation and distribution of strategic reserve.  

4.       Sell part of the commodity stock in local market in cases of shortages in production and export in cases of surplus.

5.      Expand the storage capacity in the country so as to meet the increase in production and satisfy the needs of the market.

    The Role of S.R.CO

1.       Building and management of S.R.CO mainly food crops.

2.       Meeting the deficit in food crops and other strategic commodities

3.       Replacement of the commodity in a reasonable time.

4.       Provision of the strategic commodities mainly crops to the relevant agencies, at the right place and time.  This is in prior collaboration with those agencies after the advanced or deferred payment of the value of the said commodities. It is worth mentioning that the S.R.CO 

   The Future Plans

In the framework of the twenty-five years strategy of the state. The SRCO Prepared its five years plan with the following prospective: activities:

1.       Accessibility to a target quantity of strategic reserve of sorghum as well as other cereals to avoid emergency cases.

2.       To buildup stock of agricultural inputs such as (fertilizers, jute & pesticides…etc) to meet the needs of the agricultural sector.

3.       Continuation in listing other strategic commodities beside sorghum and maintain reserve.

4.       Establishment & finance the modern strategic storage facilities in the country.

5.       Creation of specialized body to undertake the supervision of the storage the national level.

6.       Completion of corporation equipments and supporting it with technical exports especially in information technology to computerize all works of CRCO.

7.       Coordinator with the legal, regional, and international originations in food security food
